Dear Friends,

Driving to work this week, I was struck by the beauty of the light we get at this time of year in New England. It seems softer, more golden. And, of course, the yellows, reds, and golds of the trees filter and reflect it. I drive from Springfield to Northampton every morning on my commute, and periodically find myself in the routine, neglecting to pay attention to the beauty of the drive. As I turned my attention to the beauty of the drive this week, I thought how easy it is to tune out, and how conscious of a process mindfulness is. Coming to my yoga mat or meditation cushion is my regular reminder to myself to remain mindful, awake, observant of my surroundings. There is no end, no time when I will suddenly be enlightened and no longer have to practice. The practice is the journey. As we turn the lights back this weekend and move into the phase of darkness, I invite you to turn inward in your practice, to reflect on your heart's deepest longing, to plant seeds, and allow them to germinate.

Wishing you a mindful November,
Kendra

Thoughts on softening, trust, self-worth, discipline, and full play

Blog
Since my last e-newsletter, I have posted a few new blog entries. In early September, inspired by the beautiful wedding of my dear friend Kate to her partner and friend Micah, I explored trust and softening. A few weeks later, my husband and I watched a movie about global warming, and I contemplated the relationship between self-worth and environmental responsibility. Most recently, I wrote about the relaionship between discipline and freedom. I frequently use my blog to develop the themes that I teach in my yoga classes, so if you have been in my classes, some of this just might sound familiar!
